Radio Jenpoj, an independent indigenous radio station, offers Mexican community hope in time of natural disasters, war and migration.

Socrates Vasquez is Mexican representative of international independent radio network AMARC in Mexico and director of Radio Jenpoj, a community-owned and -operated radio station in Tlahuitoltepec, an indigenous Mixe community in Oaxaca. Radio Jenpoj has been on broadcasting 107.9 FM since 2001.  After a protracted legal batter with Mexican communication authorities, the radio station obtained its broadcasting license in 2004.

Vasquez elaborates on the radio station’s response to the recent avalanche which devastated their community, drug trafficker music, and migration.
