At 10:00pm, everyone congregated around the makeshift stage in the schoolyard to hear an address by the Comadantes. Before the crowd of supporters, Comandanta Hortensia delivered a speech with a call to continue the struggle.

“It is time to strengthen and globalize the resistance and rebellion,” said Comandanta Hortensia.

Following Comandanta Hortensia, the speech was given by members of the communities in the Mayan dialects of Tzotzil and Tzeltal.

After the speeches, the EZLN comandantes remembered those who have been a part of the struggle, and re-committed to the continuation of the struggle by shouting: “Viva Mexico!” “Viva Marcos!” “Viva el Comandante Pedro!” and “Viva el EZLN!”

The drill team was then released, and the flags were retired.

After the recommitment and the call to globalize the struggle, Los Originarios de San Andrés returned to the stage. They were followed by a number of artists from Mexico and abroad to ring in the New Year and celebrate the twenty years of the Zapatista struggle.
