Hi Ben,

I met Emily and Heather when I was in Bolivia last November, but not you. I notice that your tour is not including the West Coast - too bad.
We have an annual regional FOR 'retreat'over the 4th of July - no fireworks.... This year we meet June 29th for three days - I have been drafted to give a workshop re: Latin America, the Hopeful Continent. If you were going to be in the area I would draft you, cuz you're Johnny-on-the-Spot....
Besides your own book, have you suggestions on any 'must read' books? This is going to be more of an interactive (cuz lots of FOR people get around a lot..) than informative workshop - but, of course, you can hardly have too much information, at least source-wise.
Let me know if you have any suggestions. I enjoy your work.
Thanks,
Nina

Hey Adan - thanks for reading, glad you like the writing. I think of you guys often (and still keep sending friendly strangers toward Brooklyn to meet you). Tell everyone I said hello and send me your damn email, I can't find it. Hasta la proxima, Ben

John, Thanks so much for the note. I feel the same way. Muchos saludos, Ben

I enjoy your eye and the mannor in which you describe what you see.

It captures flavors of what I have seen and felt in Bolivia, and makes me want to return to somehow help repay Bolivia's educational gift to me--an understanding of what my country has done in keeping Bolivia's elite in power, and her people impoverished while her natural resources were being plundered.

That understanding opened up other windows and new understandings regarding a different history than what I was taught in our USA schools and "culture" from 'day one'--a history of our nation's economic, if not military, imperialism. Whereas Bolivians could have stoned me to death for what my country has done to theirs, they educated me instead--they opened my eyes after over half a century of relative blindness, and enabled me to see--painful understandings, yes--and I will be grateful forever for them.

Thanks, Ben--keep up the good work, You offer a taste of Bolivia, and it is as refreshing as it is appreciated. Regards,,,John

Damn Dangl, that opening paragraph was amazingly poetic. You have a talent for giving strikingly vivid and wild images to my brain. Hope all is well in the south. We think about you often. Hasta la proxima Tlayuda.
