The Guatemalan government wants U.S. helicopters, radar equipment and U.S. agents to help expand its anti-narcotic operations.

Colombian president Alvaro Uribe expressed support for Guatemala’s request for "anti-drug" aid during a one-day visit. The two countries are exchanging intelligence and conducting training exercises.

"We may even do binational anti-drug operations," said Guatemalan Deputy Interior Secretary Julio Go-doy.

U.S. anti-drug programs in Colombia have been criticized for environmental damage caused by aerial spraying, encouraging human rights abuses and for not actually working to decrease cocaine production.
