Ecuador and the U.S. suspended trade talks after a fruitless week of negotiations in Washington.

Agricultural issues, intellectual property and Ecuador's new hydrocarbon law (which would redistribute oil profits) kept the two countires from reaching a deal.

A recent poll revealed that a majority of Ecuadorians oppose the fta.

In addition, Ecuadorian farmer and indigenous movements are mobilizing and plan continued protests in the coming days. They are demanding that President Alfredo Palacio reject the deal and hold a national referendum.
