Mexican Congressman Proposes Transsexual Rights

A Mexican Congressman announced last week that he would propose a constitutional amendment to guarantee the rights of transsexuals.

The legislation would ensure they could legally change their name and gender. It would insert a paragraph into the constitution stating "every person has the right to the recognition and free exercise of their gender identity and their gender expression."

This may be an uphill battle in a country hostile towards sexual tolerance. Activists hope other countries will propose similar legislation.
