Peruvian Candidate Worries Investors PDF Print E-mail

The mining and energy industries are worried that an indigenous presidential candidate in Peru whose leading in the polls could change business as usual in the Latin American country.

Ollanta Humala, a populist and retired army commander who attempted a coup in 2000 against former president (and criminal) Alberto Fujimori, would move the country away from its free market policies.

Humala wants to rewrite foreign contracts with mining and energy companies to make them more profitable for the country's citizens. He is also against free trade.
