From PCASC:

This Sunday, Venezuelan voters will take to the polling booths and vote on a series of constitutional amendments, among them:
    – creating community councils to build power from the bottom up
    – granting social security benefits to unwaged workers, including mothers, street vendors and domestic workers
    – reduction of the work week from 44 hours to 36 hours
    – the right to a free education expanded from high school all the way through to college
    – and as the media has been fixated on during the last few weeks, the elimination of presidential term limits.

New public opinion data from the respected Venezuelan polling firm Consultores 30.11 suggests that constitutional reforms will pass in the national referendum by at least 7%.  The US government and the opposition in Venezuela are becoming desperate, and we don’t know what might happen on December 2.  We must demand that our government respect the democratic process of the Venezuelan people.  We must demand that the US cease intervention in Venezuela through the State Department and the CIA.

This weekend, lets keep our eyes and ears our for what’s happening in Venezuela.  In the event of violence or another attempt at a coup d’etat, we should be ready to take action in solidarity with the people of Venezuela!!!

SHOUT OUT FOR VENEZUELA:  NOVEMBER 30TH THROUGH DECEMBER 7TH TELL CONGRESS:  NO US SPONSORED COUP ATTEMPT IN VENEZUELA

Venezuela is under direct threat!!!  New evidence has been uncovered about plans to overthrow the democratically elected government of Venezuela, and even to assassinate its president, Hugo Chavez.  The time for American citizens who favor justice and non-intervention to spring into action is not the day after a coup, but the days before!

The Venezuela Solidarity Network is calling on Solidarity and pro-Democracy activists to participate in the NOV. 30 THROUGH DEC. 7TH SHOUT OUT FOR VENEZUELA!

Call your Congressperson and  DEMAND THAT CONGRESS:

1)      Intervene to stop US violations of Venezuelan sovereignty by the State Department and the CIA;
2)      Respect the electoral decisions of the Venezuelan people;
3)      Investigate recent evidence of a US sponsored and directed plot to overthrow the democratically elected government of Venezuela;

We are urging solidarity and pro-Democracy activists everywhere to call, email, and/or visit your members of the House and Senate and the US State Department and demand that there be NO US SPONSORED AND FUNDED, CIA DIRECTED, COUP ATTEMPT AGAINST THE PEOPLE AND GOVERNMENT OF VENEZUELA.

Talking Points:
I am calling to express my concern that the United States government, through the CIA  working to overthrown the democratically elected president of Venezuela during Venezuela’s Constitutional Reform Referendum on December 2, 2007.

There is one fact that every Congressperson and every citizen in the United States of America needs to know:  democracy is alive and well in Venezuela.  Whether we like it or not, the current government of Venezuela is an elected and popular government.  Its elections have been certified by a number of international bodies, including the Carter Center, the Organization of American States, the European Union, and the NAACP.  Any attempt by the US to support an overthrow of the Venezuelan government would be interpreted by the world as an assault against democracy and an abandonment of democratic principles.

I am calling to demand that you, as a representative of the people, take action NOW to contact the CIA, the State Department, USAID, and the Bush administration and let them know that another US sponsored coup attempt in Venezuela is unacceptable.  Furthermore, I am calling to demand that a Congressional investigation be undertaken regarding this memo and other violations of Venezuela’s sovereignty.
